Parent Power Institute
Our aim is to equip parents with effective tools to support their children’s education. Parents learn about the history of education, how to stand up for child’s rights in the school system, and how to make real changes in our community.
Our focus includes discussions on unfair discipline practices, the changing landscape of public education, and better ways to advocate and support Black & Brown students, LGBTQ+ student, & students with disabilities. Together, we will examine the policies that are negatively impacting our children and work towards fostering meaningful change through collective efforts.
Parent Power Fellowship
Unify, Lead, Learn: The Parent Power Fellowship (PPF) prepares Black and Brown parents with children in the Wake County Public School System to become leaders in their children’s education and build collective parent power. Building on EJA’s introductory PPI program, PPF is a 6-month commitment with bi-monthly sessions from March to September. Fellows are supported with meals, childcare, and stipends to ensure access and participation.
Through this fellowship, parents gain advocacy and leadership skills, build relationships, and join EJA’s campaigns for education justice. PPF focuses on deepening parents’ engagement with EJA’s work, including board meetings, collective action, and understanding social justice and policy. Participants acquire the tools to advocate for their children, strengthen community voice, and create positive change in WCPSS and beyond.
